HD Video Conferencing

Many people have the preconceived notion that once you use HD Video Conferencing equipment, you can automatically notice a substantial difference between it and SD Video Conferencing, only to find out that the difference is not that evident after all once they’ve actually tried it.

There’s one major reason for this – bandwidth. When you perform video conferencing on a 1mbps connection, it won’t matter much whether you use HD video conferencing equipment or SD video conferencing equipment. This is because the HD stream has to be compressed first in order to accommodate it into the 1mbps connection.

However, if you compare them on a wider bandwidth, say a connection operating on 3 mbps, then you’ll notice the big disparity. Image resolution as well as audio clarity will be much improved on the HD.

This now opens us to a realization. Since HD video conferencing equipment can only perform optimally on very large bandwidths, the price tag that accompanies it is actually higher than most people initially expected. Not only would you need to spend on the already-expensive equipment, you would also need to shell out more to upgrade your current connection. If you don’t, you won’t be able to experience the full benefit of HD video conferencing.
